Meeting the new Volvo machines- in a quarry

Last Friday the stars aligned for brand Volvo.

Customers of Transdiesel, Volvo Construction Equipment’s NZ agency, converged in Auckland from as far afield as Perth and Singapore to attend an demonstration of new machines in the construction range. There was also the small matter of a stopover in the Volvo Ocean Race, and its associated events.

Transdiesel took this opportunity to crank up the amplifier and give its VIP customers the full Volvo hospitality experience. As one of Contractor magazine’s representatives in attendance I’ll vouch for both myself and general manager David Penny and say that the activities which we attended were both highly enjoyable from a networking point of view, as well as valuable from a product perspective.

Sufficiently satiated after a luncheon at the company’s Wiri service centre, delegates were then bussed to Stevensons’s Quarry at Drury.  Since taking on the Volvo agency some seven years, Transdiesel has held one other product demonstration event for customers. Friday therefore was an event with a certain significance, as three new machines were being demonstrated simultaneously.

flags, we sat under a glorious blue Auckland sky and scoped out the impressive new Volvo EC950E excavator, a new Volvo A60H Articulated Hauler and a Volvo L260H Wheel Loader. Each machine sat in its allocated area with a pile of gravel, ready to start manoeuvres.

Choreographer Mark Keatley, Trandisesel’s digital marketing manager had dived into his digital music library and sourced some Britpop classics, and with Damon Albarn bouncing off the quarry walls, the machines went through individual sequences then worked in unison. At the conclusion David & I took a closer look and posed some questions of the company technicians.

In tomorrow’s blog we will look at the three machines in more detail.
