Mural artwork on Kaikoura’s SH1 coastline

The design and landscaping of the new journey along Kaikoura’s SH1 has fortunately benefited from the establishment of a Cultural Advisory Group (CAG).

A design hui between the CAG and NCTIR, the project JV team, set in motion the establishment of a Cultural Artwork Package that would tell stories of Kaikoura’s native heritage along the route, using concrete surfaces and safe stopping areas.

The video we have included here shows a segment of the Maori creation story told by Nga Tahu leader Matiaha Tiramorehu in 1849, being vapour blasted into the concrete panelling.
