#Navigatingthefuture to feature 44 speakers

Civil Contractors New Zealand, the New Zealand Roadmarkers Federation and the Roadmarking Industry Association of Australia have arranged 44 amazing speakers for #Navigatingthefuture – 2019’s national conference for civil contractors and roadmarkers – which takes place in Rotorua from 31 July – 3 August.

An intriguing discussion on the state of civil construction and roadmarking in New Zealand is planned, including a panel of senior industry leaders scheduled to analyse the results of the annual Construction Industry Survey. We also have the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Simon Bridges, the Minister of Transport Hon. Phil Twyford, and the Minister of Employment Willie Jackson – not to mention Rotorua Mayor Steve Chadwick.

Keynote speakers are of the highest calibere, including New Zealander of the Year Mike King on mental health in construction, City Rail Link Chief Executive Dr Sean Sweeney on New Zealand’s largest civil infrastructure project, master communicator Shayne Thompson and BNZ Chief Economist Tony Alexander on the national economy.

Contractors can find out how to make the best technology choices from Andrew Radcliffe and Richard Cumins. Join us for a workshop on construction sustainability from Regan Burke of ICB Retaining & Construction, who masterminded CivilShare to re-purpose construction waste at a profit. There will also be small business sessions, workshops on trench shoring and roadworker safety, and the launch of the updated Code of Practice for the Safe Handling of Bituminous Materials – a key publication for the industry.

Conference will feature Charlie Taylor of Taylors Contracting, who took his business solar and reaped the rewards. Anthony Green and John Henare of Wilson Earthmoving will also feature in a talk about the foundation of a virtual reality training school for excavator operators with support from the Provincial Growth Fund.

Road safety presentations will illustrate new thinking and best practice. These include a presentation from Dr Hamish Mackie on managing competing demands on our roads, Simon Douglas of the Automobile Association on communication of safe speeds, and presentations from Grant Bosma, Barry Bignell, Fabian Marsh and and Dr Jared Thomas on safe intersections and road safety outcomes.

Careers will covered by Peter Doake of the Inzone Careers Coach and Jamie Kissock of the Ministry of Social Development. Technology will be covered by drone operators, trenchless pipeline installers and video game creators.
