Toomer-Reti won the Civil Contractor’s New Zealand Auckland Regional Excavator Operator Competition, held at Big Boys Toys at ASB Showgrounds from 16-18 November.
Thirty three competitors used excavators to navigate a set course, putt golf balls, open a bottle of beer, slam dunk a basketball and more, in front a crowd of onlookers. They were also judged on their health and safety precautions and planning.
Auckland’s regional competition was one of 10 held around the country to find New Zealand’s best excavator operator, and Toomer-Reti will go on to the National Excavator Operator Competition at Manfield Park in Fielding in March 2019.
Second prize went to Brian Hoffman from Brian Hoffman Ltd and Jake Alderson took third place. The team prize for most accumulated points went to CB Civil and Drainage, Daniel Smith of DK Smith Excavations won the Non-CCNZ Member Prize. Nick Cain of won the‘Good Bugger’ prize for acting in the spirit of the competition.
