An Allis-Chalmers movie

Allis-Chalmers was a leading US manufacturer whose machines we have profiled extensively in our Classic Machines columns.  A-C construction equipment dominated global sales of tractors, scrapers and loaders for many years- its New Zealand agent was  CablePrice.

This clip, entitled ‘The Challenge of Excellence’ is a promotional piece filmed on 16mm footage in the 1960s, at the company’s West Allis Wisconsin factory.

Notwithstanding these marketing efforts A-C couldn’t keep up with its competitors and ultimately her assets were divested in different directions. The company sold its construction equipment division to Fiat in 1974, and traded on as Fiat-Allis, until 1985.
